Thought for the Day
Alan Greenspan appeared in Congress recently. As usual, he noted that inflation was not a problem.
Oh yeah, said our old friend Congressman Ron Paul. If that is so, how come the dollar has lost almost half its value since you've been Fed chairman?
The maestro had no answer.

Why Nazism Was Socialism and Why Socialism Is Totalitarian
New Zealand is currently a very free society, but the price of this freedom is eternal vigilance.
Here in New Zealand we seem to be suffering the delusion that the government is solving all our problems - all we have to do is elect a suitable bunch of politicians and they will collectively solve our problems. The problem is that the government IS the problem.
Government caused a problem with Air NZ by not letting them combine with Singapore Air. That political decision cost us all $1,000,000,000 as we struggled to bail them out.
TVNZ has been working nicely (although I never watch it) and making money each year until our politicians started to make it more to their liking and this interference is now destroying a once valuable asset that we all own. How much was TVNZ worth 3 years ago and how much is it worth now?
Some people would say that our politicians are making a success of banking with Jim's Kiwi Bank and while the taxpayer is funding its establishment all seems to be going well. But I ask you to just remember the "old" BNZ which cost us all $1,000,000,000 or more before we could find someone to buy it. (Not to mention that Post Bank which is bank-rolling Kiwi Bank put up our postage by 20% to help pay for it!)
But it is not just in business that politicians fail us. Since 1999 our politicians have increased our annual health spend by an additional $3,500,000,000. From $6bn to $9.5bn. That extra money would buy private health insurance for ALL of us each year. We would have $6bn for Accident & Emergency, and Cancer and long term illness assistance and for promoting healthy living in the community. All operations would be covered by private health insurance for everybody which would mean, after a settling down period, that ALL citizens would get the operations they need WHEN they need them. We all know that the first question the specialist asks you when you need a heart operation (or any operation for that matter) is, "Do you have health insurance"? If you do you get fixed at once - if you don't you are in the lottery and you may live or die. Our politicians are the cause of the problem yet somehow they have convinced the majority of the population that they are fixing the problem.
Until we grow up, the people who have less money and cannot afford to look after their families outside government "care" will suffer needlessly.
Our socialist "Nanny" state will continue to hurt us until we change our attitude and accept that the best way is for all to stand on their own feet. Some things can be provided by government (such as accident and emergency facilities) but many things are best left to private enterprise.
This article shows that the horrors of Nazi Germany came from a socialist government. Capitalism was not the problem as claimed by politicians. The word "Nazi" was an abbreviation for "der Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiters Partei — in English translation: the National Socialist German Workers' Party.
Politicians are tricky bastards - particularly socialists!
