Thought for the Day
If a man is not a socialist at 20 then he has no heart; But if he is not a capitalist by 40 then he has no brain.

Quoted often by Peter V Gallagher - The original source is lost to me.

Education is a life long process.

John Key Speaking to Parties for Growth Tuesday 7th June

John Key, National's Finance spokesman, will be speaking to us all on Tuesday the 7th of June at Thorndon Club No.4 Katherine Avenue in Thorndon Wellington.

I am sure that he will have some interesting things to say and I look forward to a most enjoyable evening.

Rodney Hide is accusing National of "watering down" their taxation policies but John assures me that they are not. How much of their policy will we learn on Tuesday?

DDT Should Not Be Banned
One of the things that greatly concerns me in our fight to drive up New Zealand's growth rate is the way that some of our politicians have hysterical reactions to things which do not warrant such hysteria.

We are seeing such hysteria at the moment with the "Climate Change" scenario. First we had global cooling in the 70s, then we had global warming in the 90s. Now we have "Global Climate Change" as our "new found" problem to scare the children with - and the politicians, bureaucrats and the greenies indulge in much speculation at a range of world venues and come up with the Kyoto Protocol - which presumably will save us from - wait for it, Climate Change.

Talk about muddled thinking which is now set to cost us all many millions of dollars for no measureable effect. The government meanwhile has claimed all the "carbon credits" but the rest of us will have to pay the "carbon debits".

Meanwhile China and USA and many other large countries just carry on as before. Our huge costs will make no discernable difference.

But I get ahead of myself. This story is not about "climate change" but about DDT. To get the "Climate Change" story into perspective it is useful to see what has happened in the past when Greenie Hysteria has displaced scientific rational thinking. Greenie thinking about DDT is a major problem in the world today and is responsible for around 1,000,000 deaths per annum. Yes, the Greenies have killed off 30,000,000 people with their ignorance about the use of DDT. By fighting to stop the limited use of DDT to kill the malaria carrying mosquitoes in tropical countries our Greenies are promoting the deaths of around a million people - mostly children - per year.

Because it sounds so awful people don't believe it. Here is a study by John Dyson of Harvard which shows the full extent of the problem caused by irrational hysteria rather than what should be done after careful scientific analysis.

It is time to stamp out government by hysteria and apply rational thinking to improving our lives.

Virides delendi sunt.

Is the US Still a Good Risk?
It is interesting that the biggest and strongest capitalist country in the world is borrowing more and more money from the biggest and most successful (because it follows capitalist principles) communist country in the world. Can America keep on buying cheap goods from China and paying with trillions of dollars in Treasury bills (IOUs)?

Where will it all end? The current situation is not sustainable. Will it all end badly? Who will blink first; The American consumers or the Communist Leaders?

Can we fix it?
