Thought for the Day

It was Thomas Jefferson who warned, "The natural progress of things is for liberty to yield and government to gain ground."

And this is all to the detriment of our economy.

Big Government Solutions Don't Work

the other day I was talking with a politician who espoused the view that governments seem to cause problems rather than fix them, and whenever they set out to fix one of these problems they invariably made the problem worse.

As I have recently come to the same conclusion I found these views fascinating. All the evidence points to economies growing at their fastest rate when the government is reduced in size to about 20% of GDP. As ours is steadily growing past 42% at the moment we not only have a long way to go to reach the ideal but we are heading in the wrong direction.

Labour has transformed our economy from a growth rate of around 4% down to between 1% and 2% and the outlook is for more of the same.

Congressman Ron Paul of the USA has some interesting things to say about this:

Account-holders Move Funds to Avoid EU Rules.

Irish residents with money held outside the country have switched their funds to new locations to avoid EU rules cracking down on offshore tax evasion.

Dr. Cullen is cracking down on tax-payers with money invested overseas. It will be interesting to see the effects of all this effort.

The "Big Tax" governments are pulling out all stops to keep their populations ensnared in the "High Tax" net. This will hasten the decline of the Nation State and help to increase our freedoms - but only in the long term.

As my grand-daughter said when she examined her bank account a few years ago, "They've stolen my money!" This was the government stealing some of her money in the guise of tax on interest earned.

Isn't it sad when the government stoops to taking a few dollars out of the pocket money of kids. It is time for a serious rethink of the "High Tax" society. It is causing us all harm.

Did you know that the UN is trying to establish a world tax on everybody? What fun that will be!
