Thought for the day
We shall get nowhere until we start by recognising that political behaviour is largely non-rational, that the world is suffering from some kind of mental disease which must be diagnosed before it can be cured.

Social Security Reform: A Free-Market Alternative
Social Security is one of the vexing questions of the age. Our Western governments are all proposing solutions mostly to do with putting off the day of reckoning by making retirement age 65 or later, or saving more in government controlled coffers for paying out later - the Cullen fund is one of these schemes. So governments struggle with promises they cannot keep. Muldoon promised me a loverly pension when I reached 60 as he taxed me 66 cents in the dollar. He took my money but "No pension for me at 60".
Why would we think latter day promises will be any better?
Here is an interesting solution. It is probably the only realistic solution but our politicians are not likely to consider it. I am sure you will see why that is! The example is of America but it applies equally to New Zealand.
Our best solution for a prosperous future is "Less Government". 84% of Kiwis got it right!
