Letters to the Editor
We are continuing with our aim to write letters each week to the Editor of the DomPost. This week's is from John Bishop.

Why not help with our campaign to keep the pressure on politicians to pursue policies of growth. Write a letter!

Why I’m with ACT and why National needs us
Dr Graham Scott explains to the ACT Tamiki Midwinter Dinner why he has made a commitment to the ACT Party.

I think it is important to understand something of the economics that Dr Scott espouses and why this has led him to join ACT in the hope that New Zealand might develop a better understanding of growth and how to get our economy growing at a steady 4% or 5%.

Labour have been in charge for over 5 years now and they have followed their ideological bent which has resulted in increased taxes and more regulation. We know that this leads to lower growth and sure enough, the economists in this morning's paper are now predicting a period of much lower growth.

I find it incredible that Labour refuses to recognise what produces growth yet still has the aim of having growth sufficient to get us back up into the top half of the OECD.

How is it possible for intelligent members of a government to have such a strong aim for the economy yet continually make decisions that slow the economy down. Do they have a death wish? It is beginning to look like it.

The more we can educate all New Zealanders on how to get growth and the benefits that accrue to everybody from a higher growth rate the more likely they are to make rational decisions about their new government. The more that politicians see people voting for growth oriented parties the more likely they are to take growth seriously and develop growth producing policies.

I have edited out some of the electioneering from Dr. Scott's speech. I hope you find it interesting.

Follow the Leapin' Leprechaun
It is becoming increasingly clear that in this world we get what we make of it. Hoping to shelter people from the realities of life by voting in governments that will make everything safe and comfortable is a recipe for disaster.

Governments cannot generate wealth. And it takes wealth to run social services.

The only solution is for Governments to take a back seat in business and concentrate on providing the infrastructure and the incentives for growth and then letting the people do what suits each individual. Enlightened self interest will generate the wealth of the nation.

This is another article comparing the French and German economic model with Ireland's new one. Helen has said that she aspires to the French model of Socialism. This is a mistake. Print out a copy of the article and send it to the politicians of your choice.

If enough of us show that not only do we care about New Zealand's future but that we are also economically literate the pollies might decide that there are votes in growth!!
