Our Economy : Ideas For Growth
Kiwis Poverty Immense

A recent flurry of information and discussion in the newspapers (I wrote this in July 2004) has brought to light a very worrying situation. Kiwis are much poorer than Australians. We learned last year that over the last 30 years the average income in Australia has gone from about the same as us to 33% higher.

Information as at May 2007 seems to indicate that the Aussies are now earning 40% more than we are!

What we know is that we Kiwis also have much less in the way of assets than our Aussie cousins. It is becoming more and more obvious that we are poor and getting poorer but the big question is; “What are we going to do about it?”

For one idea see this article. . .

Creating Wealth and Keeping it

The New book by Phil Scott, President of the Foundation for Economic Growth.

"This book is good, damn good and no statistics!" Lindsay Gordon, MA, MSC, PHD.

Every serious economics student should have a copy and read this ground-breaking foundation of clear economic thinking. Real Economics explains how human actions shape our world and why so much seems to be going wrong for Western economies. This book will bring enlightenment for the general reader who will see why a few very wealthy are becoming exceedingly rich and the middle classes are on the road to serfdom.
