Letter for Publication
Sir
The recent article in the Dominion Post on the relative comparison between South Korea and North Korea and Kenya was a reminder that Government policies do count and can make or break a country. New Zealand needs a 'vision' and a 'leader' to implement it.
Which party and/or leader is most likely to provide us with a world-class living standard? Is Dr Brash a genuine leader, will Helen Clark develop a vision, can Winston Peters stay in Government long enough to hold the line, will Jeanette Fitzsimmons expand her horizons, is Peter Dunne too conciliatory to lead and is Rodney Hide long with us?
If a visionary leader doesn't emerge in the up-coming election, perhaps we should hold a series of 'all citizen' huis to develop a 'Country Plan' with goals and milestones to take us to near the top of the OECD wealth table in our lifetime.
We don't want to travel to Australia for every birthday and to see our grandchildren grow up via emailed pictures, we want them to stay here.

The Editor,
Dear Sir,
Chris Trotter tells us in his article today, Friday 15th July, about socialist taxes. The lower paid pay no taxes and the higher paid have more than half their earnings taken away. He then wants to know if we have any questions. Well I have one for him: What will he do when the exodus of skilled workers becomes a flood of our best and brightest leaving for other low tax economies? I suggest he have another read of Animal Farm. Poor old Dobbin was stupid.
Yours sincerely,
Phil Scott
